Eienskappe van God

DIE NATUURLIKE EIENSKAPPE VAN GOD WAT VERBAND HOU MET GOD SE WESE SOOS HY IN HOMSELF IS.
Alwetend – God weet alles. Hy het volledige kennis van alles in die verlede, hede en die toekoms. (Job 37:16; Ps. 139:1-6).
Almagtig – God besit alle mag. Hy het die vermoë om enigeiets tot stand te bring wat Hy besluit om te doen mét of sónder om gebruik te maak van enige bron buite Homself. (Job 38:4; 42:2; Ps. 33:6-9).

Alomteenwoordig – God is teenwoordig orals, in die ganse heelal, op enige tyd met sy totale wese. (Spr. 15:3; Jer.23:23-24).

Ewig – God het geen begin of einde nie. Hy word nie beperk tot die raamwerk van tyd of tot die mens se berekening van tyd nie. Hy is trouens die skepper van tyd. (Deut. 32:40; Op. 1:8; Jes. 57:15).

Onveranderlik – God is altyd dieselfde in sy natuur, wese en wil. Hy verander nooit en Hy kan nooit gedwing word om te verander nie. (Ps. 102:25-27; Mal. 3:6; Heb. 13:8).

Onverstaanbaar– Omdat God God is, is Hy bo die verstand van die mens. Sy weë, wese en handelinge is hoër as die mens s’n. Die mens verstaan alleen na gelang God besluit om Homself, sy weë of sy bedoelinge te openbaar. (Job 11:7; Rom. 11:33).

Selfstandig – God is van niks afhanklik vir sy bestaan buite Homself nie. Die hele grondslag vir sy bestaan is in Homself. Eens op ‘n tyd het niks bestaan nie, behalwe God self. Hy het niks deur die skepping tot Homself bygevoeg nie. (Joh. 1:1-3; Ex. 3:14 – “IS” is Haya” en dit beteken “om te bestaan”; Joh. 5:26).

Selfgenoegsaam – God het in Homself die vermoë om te handel, dit wil sê om sy wil tot stand te bring sonder enige hulp. Alhoewel Hy mag kies om van hulp gebruik te maak, is dit sy goedwilligheid, nie sy nood nie, wat sy keuse beheer. (Ps. 50:7-12; Hand. 17:24-25; Rom. 11:36).

Oneindig – God het hoegenaamd geen beperkinge of begrensinge in sy persoon of heerskappy nie. (1 Kon. 8:27; Ps. 145:3).

Onoortreflik– God is bo sy skepping en Hy sou nog bestaan al was daar geen skepping nie. Sy bestaan is algeheel los van sy skepsels en skepping. (Jes. 43:10; 55:8-9).

Soewerein – God is volkome in beheer; Hy is oppermagtig en die Enigste by uitstek in sy hele skepping. Daar is geen persoon of ding wat sy beheer en voorsiene plan kan ontsnap nie! (Ps. 103:19; Dan. 4:34-35; Jes. 40:23; 46:8-11).

DIE MORELE EIENSKAPPE VAN GOD WAT DUI OP GOD SE VERHOUDING MET SY SKEPPING

Heilig – God is ‘n voortreflike, volmaakte morele wese. Hy is totaal anders as die mens. Hy is ‘n reine wese in elke opsig. (Lev. 19:2; Job 34:10; Jes. 47:4; 57:15).

Genadig – God is ‘n God van genade en werk altyd op grond van sy genade. (Ex. 34:6-7; 2 Kro. 30:9; Luk. 2:40; 2 Kor. 12:9).

Geregtigheid – God is altyd goed. Dit is die kern van sy wese. Hy doen altyd wat reg is. Eintlik, omdat Hy God is, is wat Hy ook al doen reg … Hy is die absolute. Sy handelinge is altyd in ooreenstemming met sy wese … wat liefde is. (Deut. 32:4; Ps 119:142).

Regverdig – God is regverdig in al sy handelinge. Of Hy handel met die mens, die engele of demone, Hy handel totaal onpartydig deur geregtigheid te beloon en sonde te straf. Aangesien Hy alles weet, is elke verordening absoluut regverdig. (Ps. 89:14; Num. 14:18; 23:19; Rom. 9:14).

Barmhartig – God is ‘n aktiewe medelydende wese. Hy reageer jammerhartig teenoor hulle wat sy wil opponeer deur hul eie weg te volg. NOTA: DIE BYBEL vertaal “barmhartig” in Psalm 62:13; 106:44-45 met “goedertierenheid.” (Ps. 86:15; 145:8-9; Kla. 3:22-23).

Lankmoedig – God se regverdige toorn is stadig om te ontvlam teenoor hulle wat versuim om na sy waarskuwings te luister of sy gebooie te gehoorsaam. Sy ewige verlange vir die beste vir sy skepsele hou sy heilige geregtigheid terug. (Num. 14:18; 2 Pet. 3:9).

Wys– God se handelinge is gegrondves in sy wese. Sy wysheid veroorsaak dat Hy regverdige doelwitte kies en die mees gepaste planne maak om daardie doelwitte te bereik. (Jes. 40:28; Dan. 2:20).

Liefde – God se liefde bring Hom om Homself vir ander te gee, selfs om sy eie lewe af te lê. Sy liefde veroorsaak dat Hy sy skepsele se beste begeer. Hierdie liefde is nie gebaseer op die waarde, reaksie of verdienste van die voorwerp wat Hy liefhet nie. (Rom. 5:8; 1 Joh. 4:8; Efs. 3:17-19).

Goedheid – In sy goedheid gee God aan ander – nie volgens wat hulle verdien nie – maar volgens sy goedwilligheid en goedheid teenoor hulle. (2 Kro. 5:13; Ps. 106:1).

Toornig– Daar is in God ‘n haat vir alles wat sondig is en ‘n onuitwisbare drang om alle ongeregtigheid te straf. Wat ook al teenstryding is met sy heilige standaard, moet uiteindelik versoen of verteer word. (Rom. 1:18; Joh. 3:36; 2 Kro. 19:2; Kol. 3:5-6; Op. 15:7).

Waarheid – Alles wat God sê, is die waarheid. Óf dit geglo word deur die mens of nie óf dit gesien word as die waarheid of nie – wat God spreek, is diewaarheid. Wat Hy ook al spreek, is die waarheid. (Num. 23:19; Joh. 17:17; Tit. 1:2)
